A Traditional Meal in a Hanok with a Calm Atmosphere Perfect for Quiet Conversations

3

If you're looking for a place to enjoy a quiet meal and have a conversation in the Seochon and Hyehwa areas, a venue infused with Hanok charm would be a perfect fit. In the softly lit and tidy atmosphere, the comfort of the seating takes precedence over the meal itself. From a light and inviting ambiance to a leisurely dining experience akin to a course meal, the Korean cuisine offered here is quite solid. When you want to prioritize the warmth of conversation over the hustle and bustle, feel free to choose from the options in Jongno without any pressure.

    Veranda

    03169 9-4, Sajik-ro 10-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

"A small retreat in Seochon where you can linger with books and coffee, Veranda" Just a short walk from Gyeongbokgung Station, Veranda is a place that can easily be missed at first glance, as it only has a small menu board peeking out between the low traditional houses. Upon entering, you are welcomed by a cozy and warm atmosphere reminiscent of an independent bookstore. Here, you can enjoy coffee, light meals, and even wine, along with options like toast and brownies. It’s a great spot to quietly spend time reading or drawing, and the low-pressure environment makes it especially appealing for those who want to stay for a while. With books, art, plants, and decor harmoniously blended throughout, the space feels comfortable just to look at, and pets and children are welcome too. It’s a perfect place to stop by in Seochon for a break with a book and a drink, as if going for a leisurely stroll.

    Goryonggwan Hyehwa Branch

    03077 258-5 Changyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul

"Enjoy Chinese course meals in a traditional Hanok atmosphere at Goryonggwan Hyehwa Branch" Conveniently located near Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station, this place exudes the serene ambiance characteristic of Hanok from the moment you enter. With seats that overlook a courtyard, you can enjoy the charm of the space while dining, making it perfect for dates, gatherings, or family meals. The menu offers a variety of options ranging from Chinese course meals to shabu and hot pots, as well as individual dishes, allowing you to choose according to your preferences. During my visit, I enjoyed the Goryongyeon course along with Goryong balls; the course was served in a timely manner, making it easy to savor each dish without feeling overwhelmed. Starting with crab meat soup and jellyfish salad, the meal flows seamlessly into two types of large shrimp, spicy chicken with a drizzle of sauce, dim sum, black garlic stamina sweet and sour pork, and fried rice. Each dish is enjoyable on its own, making this a great place to leisurely savor a Chinese course meal.

    Chonjang House

    03041 24-1 Jahamun-ro 1-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, 1st Floor, Chonjang House

"A meat meal for lunch at Chonjang House in Seochon" Located in a cozy alley near Gyeongbokgung Station, Chonjang House is a meat restaurant that retains the atmosphere of a traditional Hanok. As you enter through the entrance, you'll see murals, and the further you go inside, the more intimate the ambiance becomes. This place offers lunch specials, but you can enjoy grilled dishes for both lunch and dinner, providing a wide range of choices. The Mi-bak pork belly has a chewy texture that leaves a strong impression, while the skirt steak showcases a different charm with its distinct grain. The side dishes are diverse, mainly featuring various types of kimchi, and the special seasoning sauce pairs well with the meal. Adding spicy pork stew and cold noodles makes for a refreshing finish to your meal, making it a great spot to stop by after exploring Seochon.
